“Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid. (John 14:27)

Wonderful peace of God! How does one survive if they do not have the peace that God gives us? Those of you who are very attentive to our newsletters may think that you are re reading last year’s letter. I prayed for God to give us a verse to start the newsletter and this is the verse that came to mind. However, as I reread the last several newsletters, I discovered that this is the verse we used last Christmas. Although I was tempted to search for another verse, I decided, this is the verse which God would impress on us – once again – this Christmas season! So many things have happened since last Christmas – the war in the Ukraine which is our neighbor country, the Freedom movement, earthquakes all around us, political unrest and an uncertain future, all cause our hearts to fear. However, God tells us to not let our hearts be troubled and to not be afraid. He is in control and we must trust Him more than ever, with our lives, our family, our churches and our countries. As we once again enter the Christmas season, we must focus on Jesus – His birth – His death – the reason that we, in the midst of turmoil, can remain unafraid and allow His peace to surround us and comfort us and know that He is in control and is watching over each one of us. May the peace of God fill your hearts this Christmas season and may He shed His love to those around you, through you!

Some of you will know that Elvira finally made it to Canada in August. Although it was a very busy, fast trip, she was able to minister in several churches and share what God is doing in Romania and was able to do some private home visits as well. We are sorry she was not able to make contact with more of you this time, however, her time was very limited and one of our priorities was our family. Elvira returned home, thankful to have been blessed by those she was in touch with and so blessed to have been able to see many who encouraged and blessed her with your love and friendship. She found the boys quite well when she arrived home and even the house survived – although it needed a little attention – as did all three boys!!

We are thankful that we were able to have our Bible School sessions again this year. Professors from England were able to return and we were blessed with spiritual growth in the students! We are hoping to start a new class in the spring of 2023 and we ask that you pray with us – that God would give Albert wisdom and direction – that he would be able to find the students whom God would want to attend and that teaching the men of Romania would continue to go forth so that many may hear the Good News – of God and His love for mankind.

Several camps were held at New Hope Camp this summer and we thank God for the way He blesses those who attend. We thank God for creation and how His beauty speaks to the hearts of many and brings peace, joy and hope for the future as we attempt to live our lives to bring glory to the Father.

The boys continue to do well in school. Although Elvira finds it a little challenging at times, God gives strength and we pray that the boys would continue to grow in wisdom and that the grace of God would be upon them. Both boys are taking music, Laurentiu guitar and Joshua keyboard – both are doing well and enjoying it very much. Laurentiu will use his abilities to bless the church in the Christmas program in the next few weeks.

Our Romanian children are doing well. Dana gave birth to a boy in August, bringing our grandchildren count to 6 in Romania! 3 girls and 3 boys! Valentina is now in Holland, has found work and we pray that the peace of God would surround her and protect her and that He would use her for His glory!

Our Canadian children are also doing well – although Karl was recently hospitalized for blood clots in his lungs! He is now on medication and is doing well. Our grandson was just water baptized and we pray God’s protection over him and that God would use Him to His glory and that He would bless those around him. It was awesome for Elvira to spend time with them all this summer, although it also makes the ‘missing’ a little harder!! May God give us peace as we serve Him, where He has planted us!

Elvira seems to be quite busy with medical work. Although it is getting harder for her to balance her time between home schooling and do the medical work, she somehow manages to do it! God has placed some interesting situations in her life and we are thankful for His wisdom which helps get the job done! People are lonely and many of the elderly are depressed and feeling that there is no one there for them. We pray for wisdom as we reach out to them so that God’s peace would be on them and that His love would fill their hearts at this special time of the year.

Albert continues to be involved in church ministry, in counselling, encouraging, disciplining and is always ready to share God’s word with who ever will listen, perhaps – sometimes even when they do not want to listen! Change is hard for many and it is often a slow process but we pray that each one of us become more like Jesus each day and choose to follow His word and find peace and joy in serving Him.

Albert and Elvira celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in November. It is amazing how the years have passed and we give the glory to God for allowing us to continue to serve Him in “our old age!” We thank Him for being the glue that binds us together – in His love – for walking with us and guiding – for blessing us with family and friends and even though our health may not be great – we thank Him for giving us the strength to continue to serve Him and share His peace and love with a very hurting and needy world!

We thank God for you!! For your prayers, words of encouragement, for your love and support. We are not in Romania alone, we have God and we feel your hearts here with us – extending God’s love – His peace – His joy – and hope for everlasting life, with Him – in Heaven!

We love you – you are in our hearts and prayers – and we daily thank God for each one of you! Do not get so busy with Christmas that you forget to share His love, joy and peace this Christmas – let His peace fill your hearts and may you truly celebrate His love for each one of us!

“March around the city …do this for six days. On the seventh day, march around the city seven times,…Shout! For the Lord has given you the city!” (Joshua 6).

What a strange way to start a newsletter that is way overdue!! And we apologize for that! However, it has seemed to us lately that there is really nothing new to report, that perhaps our lives have become the same, repetitious and boring??? But- someone pointed out to us that perhaps that is the way that Joshua and the Israelites felt like when they were marching around the city, being mocked for marching and saying or doing nothing but marching (as portrayed in Veggie tales)! It must have felt like they were doing nothing. The same is for us, it seems like we go through the same ups and downs, church problems, good times, more church problems and it often feels like we are getting no where – but– perhaps it is time to SHOUT – God wants to give us the victory, take Romania for the Kingdom of God! Get rid of the feelings that nothing is important, that nothing makes a difference and shout and watch as God gives us the victory – freeing people from their bondage to worldly things and start focusing on Heavenly things and let the world see that God is in control and He will be victorious!

Another school year has come to an end and the boys did very well. Elvira has survived!! Laurentiu went full ahead, taking control of his learning and doing many more things on his own and doing them well. There are still a few areas which need much work but when we look back to 3 years ago when we started, we can see much improvement! Joshua has also done well even though we also started him with Romanian lessons which has confused his spelling a little but is doing great. He is an awesome reader and we are very proud of him.

We have finally found several Christian men from one of our churches who come to us three days a week to get caught up with some of the maintenance which had been left due to the fact that Albert is unable to do much with his hands. They have been a great blessing and much has been accomplished and Albert no longer has to look at all the things which need doing – but can rejoice in the fact that they are done. Laurentiu has been a huge help in this area and has become very skilled and has overcome his fears of electrical tools and has become a ‘professional”- in his words! It is also a blessing for Albert to be able to mentor these young men and speak wisdom and insight into their lives – a win-win situation!!

Bible school will be running again in several weeks. We are expecting all our students again now that Covid is in the past. Professors from England are returning and we are getting excited about what God has in store for the students who have grown spiritually and are better able to teach and lead in their churches.

Ministry in the three gypsy churches continues, with many ups and downs but we are believing and praying that legalistic ways of the past can be overcome so that they have the freedom to worship and trust God to lead them further in their journeys and to be a testimony to their families and communities where they live.

Several camps have been booked for this summer as well as football tournaments and times of fellowship. We are expecting God to touch lives and change them for His glory. Some work has been happening there, repair of the walk bridge, a new men’s outhouse and some cementing to make it easier for Albert to get around in his wheelchair. We are so thankful for New Hope Camp which gives churches and individuals a time to get away and enjoy God’s creation and to draw closer to Him. We find it a time of refreshing, even when we are mowing lawn and doing clean up!

It looks like Elvira will attempt a trip to Canada in August. It has been four years since she has been there and our ‘homemade’ children are quite anxious to see their mom, grandmom, as she is to see them!! There are still many details to work out but at this time we are headed in that direction! Elvira would like someone to come and stay with the ‘boys’ but they seem to think they will be okay on their own for a month! Elvira still needs some help with transportation, perhaps a vehicle when she arrives in Canada so if you are able to help, we would appreciate hearing from you. We would also like to hear from any of you who would appreciate a visit, the time will be short but we would like to touch base with as many of you as possible. Thank you for your help in making this an enjoyable and successful time in Canada as Elvira visits and shares with you, what God is doing and areas in which you can pray and support us to bring Romanians into the Kingdom of God and train them to God’s glory.”

“Shout! For the Lord has given you the city (ROMANIA)!” (Joshua 6:16)

“Peace I leave with you, my peace I give you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.” John 14:27

So thankful for the peace that Jesus left us! In this world with all the political strife, the COVID, the worldly issues in our face each day — we need that peace!! Jesus has promised us that we need not be troubled, nor afraid – and we can have confidence in Him – that He is in control and that He will work out all things to His glory!

The year has passed by so quickly and Christmas is upon us! So thankful for the baby Jesus which came to the world, to die for us, to show us how to live, to give us peace and a hope for eternal life! We pray that this Christmas we can honour Him and that others will come into the Kingdom of God because of that little baby whom we remember and celebrate at this time of year!

As we are sure you have figured out – Elvira did not get to Canada this year! Airport closures and the uncertainty of being able to get back into the country caused us to decide it was not worth the risk even though Elvira so much wants to see her family and friends! Perhaps in 2022!!

Even so, the year has been busy with summer camps, men’s conferences, Albert’s 70th birthday celebration and then our 49th wedding anniversary. We also celebrated 25 years in the ministry here in Romania!! The three Romanian churches we minister in have kept us occupied with various crisis – one after another – but also with growth pains, failures and successes! We have become very close to the families in the church and are included in so many family events that we seldom have time to be lonely – although we miss the fellowship of our Canadian family and friends!

The construction of a bathroom and family room in our home has also kept us more than a little busy, and some what stressed as it has been difficult to find good workers and supplies! We are now using the room, although the outside of the building is not finished. It is such a blessing to have a bathroom on the main floor. Albert is able to sleep downstairs and no longer has to struggle with the stairs unless doing work in his office. He is now better able to be part of the family goings on and it is so much easier for him to navigate on his own. We have purchased a hospital bed which gives him a much better sleep. We are blessed and we thank each one of you who have had a part in making this possible! We have also purchased an automatic vehicle which makes driving much easier and safer for Albert as his right hand is not working very well. We were able to sell the van to a couple who work for Youth for Christ and bless them with a price that would work for them and enable them to minister to the children and youth of Romania and make transport easier for them!

Therefore, we thank you for blessing us so we could bless them and they can bless the community they work for – and – God can be blessed! Love how it comes full circle and we and you – are all part of the blessings of God!

We have only been able to have one Bible School session this year as the others were cancelled due to COVID. How-ever, Albert keeps in close touch with the students and continues to disciple them and help them through each struggle they face and rejoice with them in each success! We pray that we can soon get back to regular Bible School scheduling and students and professors are allowed to attend!

We continue to home school – often a challenge but are blessed to see the boys doing well and becoming more independent! Laurentiu still struggles with spelling and does not like to read but is putting a little more effort into it and we pray he will see the benefits as he continues! They do miss friends so we are thankful the church we minister in has a kids program and they are enjoying that. Laurentiu is active in the leadership and he loves to teach the lessons and help with the children. We pray God will grow him into a great leader, able to work with children and teens!

Albert has not been well – seems he just gets over one thing and something else develops. He now has gastric problems which they are monitoring and in January will have some further tests done. However, even though he often does not feel well, he loves to preach, to teach, to encourage, to disciple and share from the wisdom and insight into God’s word which he has been blessed with. We ask that you continue to stand with us in prayer – believing for complete healing in his body so that he is able to focus completely on the work that God has called him to.

We thank you for continuing to pray for us and support us in so many ways even though we are not able to make personal, physical contact! We could not do it without you, your encouragement, prayers and friendships! May God bless you in 2022 and may God be glorified and His Kingdom expanded through all of us!

“For the Lord is good; his mercy is everlasting; and his truth endureth to all generations.” (Psalms 100:5)

Surely the Lord is GOOD! Though the last year has been extremely difficult and things have been unexpected and not exactly according to plan, or to our way of thinking, expecting — still – His mercy has been poured out and we know that He is in control and that He will work all things out to bring glory to the Father!

It seems we did not get passed over in this whole covid mess – although Elvira seldom gets a flu or cold, this one seems to have caught her unexpectedly and she was sick – very sick – for 2 months. Not sure which came first – covid (a flu) or liver malfunction and a kidney infection – but- God was so good through it all! Although Albert also had some symptoms, he was not as serious and was able to get through it much quicker, which was a blessing because he had to take over all her activities! The boys were super – pitched in – Valentina came home to nurse ‘mom’ and a team of friends called in a nurse and a trained doctor to administer all that was needed at home! We are so thankful for the love shown and for the very best care given by everyone! Elvira has a few minor ‘hang ons’ which are slowly going away and is thankful to be able to be up and back at work – perhaps too much work – but – God gives strength! Surely His mercies are everlasting!

Elvira is praying and thinking of a trip to Canada in August this year! It has been 3 years since she has been in Canada and is missing her family and friends and they are missing her! We are still waiting to see what happens to all the travel restrictions – however – Lord willing she will be flying across the ocean for some much needed time. We will need your prayers to cover her as she travels and to provide help for Albert and the boys as they stay behind. The trip will be shorter than usual and so she would like to pack as many visits in as is possible. Elvira is looking for assistance with travel – a car – or – someone who would like to travel some with her – or – whatever options God puts in your minds! Please write and let us know how you can help and make this trip possible – to contact some churches although Sundays are scarce. Mid August she plans to arrive in Alberta – spend time with family and some friends and then travel to Manitoba – late August – till perhaps mid September! Needing the mercies of God to make this all happen!

We just finished two weeks of Bible School. Once again God was faithful in providing professors, all Romanian, as the out of country ones were not allowed into Romania as of yet! We were left with only 4 students, due to covid restrictions and other factors, however, the men were blessed with good teaching and we pray they left with knowledge which will enhance their lives and the lives of the people they minister to. Bible School will run again in October, praying for more professors to be allowed in and for students to be able to return. We are also believing for a new starting class as some of the existing students will be entering level 3! Although it often seems like a lot of work for a few students – God has shown His mercy and has worked in and changed many lives through the teaching that the men are receiving!

Construction on our addition is going ahead. A little frustrating as we were unable to get an affordable contractor and so Albert is overseeing the work and can not communicate well or do the things he would like to do. It is also difficult to find knowledgeable help as we are building ‘Canadian’ and they are all used to working with cement and blocks! However, it will be a blessing to have a bathroom and more room on the ground floor – making movement much easier for both Albert and Elvira!

Camps also start this week at our site at the river! Teen camp, children’s camp and several family camps are scheduled to run. We pray for God’s spirit to fill the camp – for lives to be touched and changed and that many can also find a time of refreshing and fellowship! As so many wonderful things have happened at camps during our lives – we are expecting God to make things ‘happen’ this summer as well and we look forward to what God is going to do to and through each individual who attends!

Albert continues to minister in 3 gypsy churches which are about an hour drive from our home. There are many ups and downs, however, God is working and changing lives. Laurentiu has become involved in the children’s ministry as he helps with the stories and singing and controlling the children! We find that even the adults in Romania do not know many Bible stories which they can share and apply to the children’s lives. Joshua also helps but does not speak the Romanian language well –he is learning to communicate and hopefully this winter we will give him proper Romanian lessons which we believe he will learn easily – once – he decides to learn!

Home schooling went — well – not easy – but – we managed although Elvira being sick set us back a little. Joshua is an A student and Laurentiu has improved so much and his marks are also excellent – with the exception of spelling – English! However it is also improving and perhaps our crazy language with all its exceptions are starting to sink in????? Laurentiu does not like to read – at all – any language – so we are praying for a miracle for him – that God would give him the love of reading so he can learn more independently! As hard as home schooling has been – they do not want to return to the school system and we do not think it is good for them, so – we will continue as long as God gives us strength and wisdom!!

We thank God for each one of you – for your dedication to helping us Extend the love of Jesus to Romania! God Bless You!

“Behold, I will do a new thing; now it shall spring forth; shall ye not know it? I will even make a way in the wilderness, and rivers in the desert.” ( Isa 43:19)

2020 is half gone! What a year – full of uncertainties and questions and one asks, ‘What is this all about?” Even though we do not have the answers, we do know that the God we serve does and He is in control! His many promises keep us looking forward to each new day and wait to see what He has in store for us! He has promised to ‘do a new thing!”, and we wait in anticipation for it to come to pass. For Him to make a way, to bring life to the dead, to heal broken hearts, to fill us with His power and anointing! Although things look dismal in the world around us – we have HOPE – we can rejoice in Him and know His word is alive and will come to pass!

Here in Romania, the Covid continues to dictate what we can and can not do, where we can go – or not – but we are trying to make the best of each situation, to rest when we can not get out, to spend time with God, in prayer and in His Word and prepare ourselves for what God is going to do.

The last two weeks we have been able to attend church once more. There are many restrictions, many of which the people are not adhering to very well and so we pray God’s protection over us. However, it is a joy to see the people hungry to get back to His house, hungry to learn more, eager to grasp what His word has to say about how we should live and how we can reach out to others. Albert loves to teach and God has anointed him to speak to the gypsy nation in a way that they can relate and grasp the Biblical truths and we pray that they also apply them to their daily lives! Elvira has been interacting more with the ladies in the churches where we minister and pray that God will use her to bring love, joy and peace into the lives of the ladies. Laurentiu and Joshua are happy to be able to fellowship with other children once again and are an example of love to the other children.

We have been given permission by our mayor to have camps once again – at least for the time being, as our Covid numbers rise and the government threatens to lock us down once again! However, next week we will have around 40 teens and leaders at the camp site. We ask that you pray for God’s protection on each one and that God’s love would reach into the hurting, hungry hearts of teenagers who often feel neglected and unimportant. We pray for good weather as we are having much rain but that spiritual rains would fall and cause growth in the teens. We are unsure about further camps but there are many plans underway and we pray that God makes a way for them to happen so we can reach out to families in need of God’s love.

We made it through one year of home schooling! I believe Elvira’s hair has greyed considerably this last year, however, both boys passed their grades and so we move forward! Although it is often hard to see what God is doing, we can see that doing home schooling this year was a blessing in disguise as most parents had to resort to home schooling anyway and many children did not fare so well – nor did the parents! We were thankful to have the program in place with the supplies needed to continue the boys education! His ways are certainly higher than ours! New things – often not so well received but – a blessing in the end!! Elvira has also taken on the task of teaching another child! This young boy comes to help with yard work, is in grade 5 like Laurentiu and Elvira offered to help make up for what he lost because of the school closing. However, was surprised to discover that he can not even do the work of a grade one child! He is very bright, learns quickly but gets no encouragement from home nor from the school teachers and it appears they have just been pushing him through! Pray for wisdom for Elvira and that he will continue to have a desire to learn and that God will work in his life. He is very open to God’s word and memorizes quickly, is very respectful and willing to serve others.

The June session of Bible School did not run and we are doubtful that the October one will run unless God does some things quickly. We spoke to several of the students this past week and they are willing to come back, no matter what – but– we must obey the laws and many of our professors come from England and at this time they are not allowed. God can make a way!

Albert continues to mentor many ex Bible School students and church leaders via telephone and the men are very grateful for the wisdom that God has given him to advise and encourage through God’s Word.

Albert has been trying to sell our van as it has become very difficult for him to climb up into it. Thus far we have not been offered what Albert feels we should get for it and we need enough money to replace it with a lower, automatic vehicle to make driving easier for him. Pray with us that the van will be sold and he can find a suitable replacement so that he can continue to get around safely and with ease!

It has been a challenge to keep up to lawns and maintenance of the ministry buildings and camp site but we are so thankful for God’s strength and that He always provides what we need! Most of the gypsy men in our village have left for Italy and Spain for work and so it is very difficult to find hard working men to help with some of the work which needs doing but we know that in His timing, it will happen!

This month our son turns 46, our eldest grandchild 22? Where have the years gone? Our children are all doing fairly well, always some problems but we place them all in God’s hands and trust Him to help them through each difficult situation, to bring them unto Himself and that they would all trust Him and serve Him!

We are still feeling the need to build onto our kitchen so that we would have a bathroom on ground level and make it easier for both Albert and Elvira. We know that finances and help will come in God’s time but ask that you pray and believe with us to make this happen!

“Behold, I will do a new thing; now it shall spring forth; shall ye not know it? I will even make a way in the wilderness, and rivers in the desert.” ( Isa 43:19)

Joshua has been memorizing this chapter in the Bible in our home school program and how relevant it has become in these last few weeks. It seems all that people talk about is the Covid-19 virus which is changing our lives, our world, but – hopefully our faith and trust in God, the creator of this universe. The one who promises to cover us with His feathers, to deliver us from the snare of the fowler, to give His angels charge over us is still in control and we know that He is our refuge and we can trust in Him. However, there does not seem a lot of certainty in anything these days – no one knows what will happen next or who will be the next to succumb to the virus and how it will affect the rest of our lives.

Although we do not live in fear, we have been taking precautions and attempting to obey the restrictions placed upon us in order to protect our families and ourselves. Therefore, we have been home for the last three weeks and there are days which are difficult to continue and to understand just what it is that God would have us do in this situation. It is difficult to know our children are far away and we have no way to protect them or to be with them should the virus strike. Praying it does not!!! It has been difficult for Albert to not have contact with the men that he mentors and loves. It is difficult to not attend church on Sundays – although there are plenty of live services broadcasted – it is not the same as ‘gathering together with the saints’ and there is a sense of losing something special – fellowship with others who love Jesus!

We were able to finish the spring session of Bible School just before the shutdown occurred. Professors and students were afraid they would not be able to get home, however, all made it safely. We had 2 new students join us this session so hopefully we will have 4 in the first year class in the next session – as these two will join the 2 from the previous session. We are so thankful for the students who are committed to learning as well as the professors whose hearts are dedicated to the students and to teaching them God’s Word. Unfortunately, one of the professors returned home to England to discover that his son’s home had possibly been hit by the virus. Our hearts and prayers go out to them and to all families touched by the virus or illness of any kind. Due to the virus – we are struggling with knowing whether or not to go ahead with the June session. It looks like professors from outside the country will not be allowed in at that time but we may have enough Romanians trained to take these sessions. Please pray with us, for wisdom and guidance and to know what God, the Father would have us to do at this time.

As we do not know how long the shut down will affect us , we do not know if camps will be allowed to take place this summer. However, we are attempting to keep the campsite prepared should the opportunity arrive to bring in children, teens and adults to relax and refresh in God’s beautiful creation!

Our riding lawn mower decided last summer that it was ‘done’ and although we have tried to have it repaired it seems like we will have to retire it. This means that Elvira and Laurentiu will be doing ALOT of pushing this summer and although that means exercise – it is a lot of grass to be mowed and area to be maintained! We pray the shutdown will soon be over so we can bring some others in to help carry the load! We also pray that camps will be allowed to run again by that time?????

Again, we remind ourselves that God is in control and pray for wisdom and vision to see what it is that He would have us to do at this time.

***EHM SEPTEMBER 2019 NEWSLETTER***

“WHEN THOU PASSEST THROUGH THE WATERS, IWILL BE WITH THEE; AND THROUGH THE RIVERS, THEY SHALL NOT OVERFLOW THEE: WHEN THOU WALKEST THROUGH THE FIRE, THOU SHALT NOT BE BURNED; NEITHER SHALL THE FLAME KINDLE UPON THEE.” (ISAIAH 43:2)

2019 has been one of those years, seems we have been through it all, and someone kindly reminded me recently that we have not sent out a newsletter since Christmas of last year and that people can not know how to pray without hearing from us. Although Albert has sent some updates, we do apologize, there just does not seem to be enough time to juggle all the duties and maintain the home and ministry! However, we covet your prayers and are so thankful for those of you who continue to stand behind us, in prayer, in encouragement and financially and so we will give you a brief update on what has been happening in our lives this year!

Albert travelled to Canada in March and was blessed to be able to catch up with some of you then and was sorry he was not able to see more of you. However, there just does not seem to be enough time to see everyone! When he arrived in Romania, he was in a lot of pain and says something happened on the flight, perhaps a pinched nerve in the neck/ back from sitting in close quarters for such a long time!

In June, we moved out of the Rupea apartment as the church pastor and his new wife were in need of the apartment. Immediately after, we ran the June semester of Bible School and were once again blessed by God’s faithfulness in providing professors and we continue to see the students grow – although not without facing many personal challenges of their own! The young man who has done maintenance and translating for us over the last 7 years decided he wanted to move on and try something else, leaving us with no regular help. On the Monday after Bible School we went out to New Hope Camp to get it ready for camps and on the trip home, something snapped in Albert’s back, while driving, leaving him unable to move his right leg and arm. By the time he arrived home, with God doing the driving — he was unable to weight bear and had to be moved by wheel chair, into the kitchen, where he had to remain until we could get him transported to Bucharest to the hospital. After a 10 day stint of a multitude of tests, the doctors determined that he needed surgery but that his muscles and physical condition would not permit surgery at this time. Albert attempted travelling into Brasov for kinetic therapy but the length of trip and the bad condition of the road made the trips useless. We were then led to a private kinetic therapy hospital where he was able to stay and after 6 weeks, gained some of the use of his right leg and hand. He continues to do therapy/ exercises at home and is slowly gaining strength and muscle mass. The doctors are amazed and pleased with the improvement and we give the glory to God and pray for continued improvement and strength.
So, with Albert in hospital all summer and no maintenance worker, Laurentiu and Elvira were left to keep the 2 yards and campsite in some sort of order! With hospital trips to visit Albert, trying to get all the boxes from Rupea unpacked, medical calls and trying to keep 2 very energetic boys entertained, Elvira was very busy, often running only on God’s strength (which is not a bad place to be), but there just was no energy left for other activities! However, once again, God showed His faithfulness and gave the needed strength and energy to do the things which had to be done! So thankful for His unending love and patience for us!

In August, Valentina decided that she wanted to get married and there was no talking her out of it. So, Elvira took Albert out of hospital for the day and we travelled to Sibiu for a wedding at the justice of peace. We pray God’s blessings on Valentina and Octavian (Tavi) and pray that they will make God centre of their lives! At present they are living with Tavi’s mother but hoping to get their own apartment next year. Tavi has started a job and Valentina will be returning to university as well as working part time. Joshua will be staying with us for the time being as they do not have the resources or help to be able to take care of him at this time. They plan to come home for weekends so that Joshua does not miss his mother so badly.

Because of the bad education system in Romania and the special situations of our boys, we have decided to try and home school them this year! A big undertaking!! Please pray for wisdom and patience and everything else that is needed to make this a good experience for all of us! Words of wisdom from any of you who have done this would be appreciated as we never thought we would be home schooling and have always stood in awe of people who are able to do this!
In July, Frank and Rita had, a baby girl, Rahela, sister to Timo and Abi! She is beautiful and a blessing to their family. In January, Dana and Alyn will give us another granddaughter!! Our family continues to grow! We are so blessed! We were able to spend a day with them all in Turgu Mures recently and it was awesome to see how God has worked in their lives and how He continues to bless them and their ministries.

In October, we will have another Bible School semester and Albert hopes to start a new class. We are thankful that God continues to provide professors and we are praying for young men who are ready and willing to serve God and to give of their time to become disciples and leaders that will bring honour and glory to the Kingdom of God.

Albert is back on the schedule for teaching/preaching in the gypsy churches. His first evening back they had more people than ever and witnessed many healings and God touched many lives. Even in hospital, Albert took every opportunity to share God’s word and to witness to those who were around him, including the visiting pope (priest)! Although we do not understand the things we go through, we know that God has a plan and wants to reach everyone with His love and knowledge of His saving grace!

Because of Albert’s physical disabilities, and the fact that we do not plan to return to Canada in the near future, we have realized that it would be beneficial to add an addition to the ground floor level of our home as we have no bathroom facilities there and Albert – and Elvira both struggle with the many stairs in our home. We would like to add a bathroom and bedroom so that we do not have to deal with the stairs. During the time that Albert was unable to move, our kitchen became a bedroom – bathroom! Needless to say, we are looking for financial aid as well as help to do this ($30,000.00 Cdn). We know that God sees the need and will supply!

Unfortunately, we also have to tell you that we continue to struggle financially. We recognize that we have not been able to visit Canada as many of you would like and due to all the things going on in our lives, we also have not kept you informed as we would like to. We pray you would understand and prayerfully consider helping us in this area. We appreciate each one of you and the sacrifices you make to help us spread the gospel and love of God here in Romania.

Though we have been through much this year already, we continue to thank God that no matter what comes our way – He continues to protect and provide and walks with us each step of the way! We depend on His strength and know He loves us enough to see us through each difficulty, each struggle and we give Him glory and praise Him for His faithfulness.

“…whatever you did for one of the least of these …”
***URGENT PRAYER REQUEST***

We are so thankful for you – for your faithfulness to Extended Hands Ministries over the past 22 years – without you – we would not be able to continue the work which God has called us to here in Romania. Therefore, it is very difficult to write this letter as we trust in our God to provide all our needs but know that God uses His children to accomplish this work and so we must inform you that we are in financial difficulty.
Over the summer months we have been receiving only $1500.00 a month and the fact is we need at least $4000.00 a month in order to keep the ministry going. Winter will soon be upon us and the living costs have increased. We do not wish to discontinue programs which we believe are being used to further the Kingdom of God in order to survive!
– Valentina will be headed for university so extra costs exist
– The new building needs to be heated in winter as it is water heated and we pray it will be used to God’s glory.
– The Bible School is advancing well and we have just started a new intake of 6 students. We will have 3 more graduates in November 2018
– Camps are continuing until into September
– We have had several conferences where we have seen the power of God at work,
– Albert is being called to minister in more gypsy communities which involves travel
– We still have 3 children in our home
– Elvira continues the medical ministry and fewer supplies are being received and the list of needs continues.
Therefore we ask, firstly to take our needs before our Father as we have been doing and then perhaps see if or what God would have you do to help us continue the work here.
We are thankful for any and all gifts, however what we would like to see is people committed monthly to supporting us so that a budget can be maintained.

Thank you for your prayers and your consideration of this request – perhaps the first one of this kind which we have sent in the last 20 years!

God is faithful – we are also attempting to remain faithful to the commitments which we have made to God.

God bless you – please send gifts to the Canadian address above and they will be tax receipted.

‘Let them give thanks to the Lord for His lovingkindness, and for His wonders to the sons of men!’ (Psalm 107: 8,15,21,31)

Truly, we are thankful to the Lord for His lovingkindness and like David in the Psalms – we believe it bears repeating because God has been so faithful and the wonders which He has performed in our lives and ‘to the sons of men’ over the last few months have been awesome – and we can see His hand at work, even though it has not always been easy!

Where to start? Many of you have contacted us for info and once again we apologize – we have just found it time consuming to keep ahead of all the tasks that have been set before us. However, we are so grateful to those who continue to pray for us even when you do not know the circumstances we find ourselves in, it is so awesome that God knows and hears your prayers on our behalf and continues to show His lovingkindness and to work wonders in our lives.

It has been a busy and exciting summer. In June we saw the first 4 Bible School students graduate!! These men have become a part of us and it will be difficult not to have them return to us in October when we have the next Bible School session but we are so thankful that God continues to guide them and teach them and use them for His kingdom. In late October we will have another session with just one class in attendance but Albert will be traveling through out the winter months to recruit the new students for the spring session. There are many who are waiting to attend and so we ask that you pray that God would make a way for the men who He is calling into ministry to be able to come and study God’s Word.

In July, Elvira made a surprise trip to Canada! Sorry- she was only there for 2 weeks and although she would have loved to touch base with many of you, it was not possible as she was not able to be away long due to ministry and family responsibilities, however, she was able to surprise our son Karl on his 40th birthday and our grandson Kaleb for his 16th birthday! It was a very special time for them and a time of rest for Elvira as the kids blessed her in so many ways. Karl and Patricia and the kids are doing well and God continues to be faithful to them as they are faithful to Him. Please remember to pray for them as both Kaleb and Meghan are now in high school and the pressures of the world are so great!
You may also have heard that our daughter Shauna is planning a wedding! She has met a fine, Christian man from Ethiopia and plan to be married some time this winter as soon as some paper work is completed. We look forward to welcoming Kelo into our family – our family continues to grow in size and color!

We also welcomed a new grand daughter into our family in August! Abigael Stout was born to Frank and Rita, a sister for Timo!! Frank and Rita continue to work in Cluj and we are so blessed that God has chosen to use them for His kingdom and shown His lovingkindness to them in blessing them with a beautiful daughter!

Dana is returning to University this fall and is studying languages so that she will be able to work with the illiterate. Pray for her as she studies and continues to minister to the gypsy nation in the Cluj area.

Valentina has returned back to school. She has entered grade 9 and is attending in Rupea. This was a very big challenge for her as she has been out of school for one year. However, God has given her courage, and friends and she appears to be adjusting. Joshua stays with grandma while Valentina is in school and is also doing well, although he loves his mom and there is much joy when she enters the house!! He has 4 teeth now and is doing well although he continues to have stomach cramps during the night which no one seems to be able to find a solution for. He has grown and is such a joy, a blessing – truly a wonder of God. Valentina was baptized in water this summer and we are so thankful that she has chosen to follow Jesus, leaving her past behind her and looking forward to the things that God has in store for her. She also had Joshua dedicated to the Lord this summer and we ask that you pray with her and us – that God would honor her commitment to Him and use them both for His glory. Valentina has also been added to the praise and worship team at the church in Rupea – so- we continue to see the wonders of God to man – to us and our family!!!

Laurentiu has entered school!! Here it is called class 0 — but is actually the kindergarten final year. He is doing well, takes a leadership role and has a soft and kind heart for those who are hurting, who are smaller, who are less fortunate. We also had him dedicated to the Lord this summer and know God has great plans for his life! He continues to bless us with his helping heart and thoughtfulness towards others.

Because both Valentina and Laurentiu are attending school in Rupea, we have taken a small apartment there as traveling back and forth twice a day, plus for extra for worship practice was too much, especially with a baby who wants to see his mom – so – we are gathering furnishings for our part time home. While this will provide many challenges as we do not care for city living, we are also looking forward to having more Christian fellowship and for the opportunity for the children to have Christian friends as well.

We were blessed to be able to host several children, teen and family camps this summer. We were blessed by an awesome team from Canada who did several of them and are praying that God will cause the seed which was planted to grow – and once again we will see His wonders to man!!

After a difficult year with many health issues – we are believing that they are behind us!! Albert has had super reports from both his knee surgeon and his back surgeon!! The problem of losing weight to decrease the need for further back surgery still exists, however, we are looking forward to continued health for Albert so that he can continue the ministry God has called him to.

Home Bible Study group continues to meet. Several of the families have proven very loyal and determined to learn more about God’s word and we are trusting that through them, the gypsy nation can be reached for the Kingdom of God!

‘Let them give thanks to the Lord for His lovingkindness…’
